- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup oil
- 2 – 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 egg white
- 1/2 tablespoon cold water
- Optional toppings: Sesame, poppy seeds, or flaky salt
Instructions:
- Measure warm water into a large bowl.
- Sprinkle in yeast; stir until dissolved.
- Add sugar, salt, oil, and 2 cups flour; mix until smooth. Gradually add the remaining 1/2 cup of flour if the dough is sticky.
- Knead dough for 8 to 10 minutes.
- Cover dough and let rest for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 425°F while dough is resting.
- Divide dough into 12 pieces; cover, let rest 5 minutes.
- Roll each into a uniform 18-inch rope. Shape into a pretzel by making a circle, bringing the ends together, twisting once and then pressing ends onto the bottom curve of the circle.
- Place on greased or parchment-lined baking sheets. Beat together egg white and cold water and brush on pretzels. If desired, sprinkle on additional toppings.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden.
- Remove pretzels from baking sheets and cool on wire rack.
- Store in an airtight container.
