Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons cold butter
  • 1 cup cold milk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F with rack in upper portion of oven. Line cookie sheet with parchment paper for easy clean up.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar together.  Work the butter into the flour mixture using a fork or pastry blender until the mixture is crumbly.
  3. Drizzle milk over flour mixture. Mix quickly and gently until you have a cohesive dough.  If the mixture is dry, add additional milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the mixture is cohesive.
  4. Place dough on a lightly floured work surface. Pat it into a rough rectangle about ¾ inch thick. Fold it into thirds and roll gently with a floured rolling pin until the dough is ¾ “again.
  5. Cut the dough into circles with a biscuit cutter or use a knife to cut into squares or diamonds.
  6. Place biscuits on the prepared cookie sheet.  If you would like, you can brush the biscuits with milk.
  7. Bake the biscuits for 15 to 20 minutes, until lightly browned.   Remove from the oven and serve warm.
