Makes 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 (6 ounce) cans tuna packed in water, drained
  • 1/2 cup Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped celery
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • ¼  teaspoon dried dill
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon black pepper
  • ⅛ teaspoon hot sauce (may omit or add more)
  • ⅛ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 4 burger buns.

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine tuna, egg, breadcrumbs, onion, celery, mayonnaise, dill, salt, pepper, hot sauce and Worcestershire.  Mix well until fully combined.
  2. Divide mixture into four, and shape into patties. Press patties together firmly. Note: Mixture will be soft and delicate. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to make patties easier to handle.

  4. Add a slice of cheese to each tuna patty. Cover pan with lid and remove from heat and let sit until cheese is melted.
  5. Transfer patties to buns, and add your favorite toppings.
  6. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container within 2 hours.
