Makes 4 servings
Ingredients
- 2 (6 oz) cans tuna packed in water, drained
- 1/2 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1/4 cup finely chopped celery
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/4 cup light mayonnaise
- 1/4 teaspoon dried dill or 1 teaspoon fresh chopped dill
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon cooking oil
- 4 slices cheese
- 4 whole wheat buns
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine tuna, egg, breadcrumbs, onion, celery, mayonnaise, dill, pepper, and Worcestershire. Mix well until fully combined.
- Divide mixture into four patties. Press patties together firmly. Note: Mixture will be soft and delicate. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to make patties easier to handle.
- In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Fry tuna patties for 3-4 minutes per side, until cooked through and browned.
- Add a slice of cheese to each tuna patty. Cover pan with lid and remove from heat and let sit until cheese is melted.
- Transfer patties to buns, and add your favorite toppings.
- Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container within 2 hours.
